garden office your fortress in times of chaos

The Garden Office

The infrastructure of life has changed considerably in the last year. Studies show that a staggering 60% of employed Brits worked from home during the 2020 lockdown, a rise from 40% in the previous year. As technology keeps evolving and businesses start to realise the benefits of employing staff to work remotely, we are likely to see an increase in home offices.

But the road of evolution is not always straightforward. Many of those working from home complain about the lack of concentration as well as the indistinction of work- and home life. We have even had clingy but adorable toddlers interrupting video conferences going viral – and as hilarious as these videos are, working parents do struggle to assert boundaries while working from home.

That is not to say that conventional office work is ideal either. Long before the pandemic hit, the satisfaction in UK workplaces were down, mostly due to the 2008 recession, which led to cuts in many workplaces. A 2016 study carried out by Gensler showed that poorly designed open-plan environments were negatively affecting 8+ million UK workers.

That is why we want to reframe the concept of “working from home” to “working in the professional environment of your dreams – near home”. A lockable door, a space where the noise of family life can’t be heard, a room of one’s own, but much more than that.

At Premier Garden Offices we aim to wave good-bye to stuffy back rooms and bedroom offices. We offer bespoke timber garden rooms completely void of prefabrication. We give our customers the chance to design their own workplace and second home, with built-in toilettes, kitchenettes, led lighting and USB socket plugs.

We realise that concentration is the be-all and end-all of productivity, and strongly believe that working from home requires more than just a laptop, a webcam and fast wifi. There will be no blurred lines between work life and home life once you’ve encapsulated yourself in the professional fortress of your wildest imagination.

Work culture is changing, technology is evolving and the current climate is forcing us not only to adapt, but to critically rethink what it means to be in a professional environment. Sitting in an office cubicle from nine to five might soon be a thing of the past. In a sense, the lockdown of 2020 has functioned as a booster in the fight for employers’ rights to more flexibility, be it working parents or people with disabilities who find travelling to work challenging.

The chaos of the world continues outside your window. The workplace revolution is here. And more people are starting to ask themselves: Why be another ant in the office anthill, when you can be the reigning force of your own fortress?
